Kivotos Channel is a video project by Elias Adam and artistic direction by Eva Giannakopoulou in which Thanos/Space participated through performance and original text. The creative team was consisted of Ilias Gkionis, Markella Klilogiannopoulou, Christina Xharis Stelliou, Chris Tsiampakaris, Gary Salomon.
Thanos also wrote and performed a solo performance titled as "Tilekivotos" for the project. In this performance Thanos/Space got transformed into Ria Adamopoulou, a TV hostess of a midnight quiz show. Kivotos Channel was produced by Stegi Onassis.
The project caused a big cyber attack from central figures of the Greek far-right to the participants and also from far-right newspapers.
Description of the Project as written in Stegi's website:
"Kivotos Channel is a fake, pop-up TV channel, showcasing the human adventures in a post-apocalyptic future.
It is the very first day of a post-pandemic era, when a community of creatures reaches the backstage of a TV Channel. Although they survived the catastrophe, they do not feel insecure. In fact, they seem ready and steady to perform, glowing their feminine selves. The world in which they have just landed is altered, it is covid-free, full of golden feathers and cosmic dust! Welcome to Kivotos Channel! A safe space for vulnerable bodies, femininities, relational politics and radical imagination for the day after. How can we possibly reclaim social inclusion adopting funny and unexpected survival strategies in a new unthinkable world? Opting for communal tactics as raw material, Kivotos Channel crew aims to rethink community and conviviality in the context of an extravagant non-stop TV program."
Regarding Tilekivotos (as written in Stegi's website):
Ria sings “And if the great flood comes again, you’ll be the ark for me” [taken from a late-’90s Greek pop song by Katy Garbi] and blows kisses to her viewers.
This female television presenter is here for everyone who’s stayed up late specially to see her. They know that Ria is hot and generous and – above all – cares. A girl-next-door who struggled hard to make it, she stands by the side of all those striving too. S M I T A L I P A C is tonight’s conundrum. As always, she helps the audience by revealing the answer’s first letter, and the calls come flooding in. “Words ending in –ism are always tough…” she notes, before requesting more help for her viewers. But the faceless production control room refuses to give out cold hard cash in these terribly difficult times. Who will win the day after – Ria’s conscience, or capitalism?
The show takes a strange turn when our sweet host decides to rebel – not just for her own benefit, but for all her callers across the globe too, stoically up so late! Women workers of the world, unite!
