Thanos Papadogiannis aka Space / Intro to My Portfolio
Dear Visitor of My Website / Portfolio,
I have been working on the fields of performance art, theatre, drag, visual arts, photography and literature for the past seven years. In 2018 I started performing in Athens under the name of Space Manifesto. Sometimes I was doing drag shows, sometimes protest performances, sometime I was singing my own synth punk songs, sometimes I was collaborating with other artists creating shows together.
Athens is my basis and the last five years I have performed also in Germany (Theater Oberhausen and ScwhuZ Club/Berlin), France (Rencontres Bandits-Mages / Bourges) and The Netherlands (Ommen and Groningen).
I have also studied Theory and History of Art at the Athens School of Fine Arts and Theater Directing at the Drama School of the National Theater. I have also self-published two poetry projects and often I publish short stories at Yusra Magazine.
In 2023 I finished my first play called "Wet Dreams of Revenge" which I created in partnership with the Goethe Institut of Thessaloniki and under the mentorship of Jens Hillje and Prodromos Tsinikoris.
I incorporate drag in most of my projects. In many of them I perform as Space Manifesto.
Space Manifesto is a genderfluid alien. They come from an asteroid called "ST 1969". where they lived a happy life of fully automated, luxury, queer, space communism.
During their vacation in outer space, they fell on Earth by a mistake and got trapped in capitalism and its best friends: patriarchy, class, nation and the rest systems of oppression. As an alien on Earth, Space is an outcast freak and therefore, they feel comfortable only around drag performers; definitely the freakiest on this place called Greece, where they happened to land on.
Through drag, Space makes feminist political commentary, pro-communist speech, criticism on gender boundaries and stereotypes as well as antifascist acts. For Space, capitalism has to fall and it’s only through communism that our societies can achieve equality among humans as well as technological advancement.
The last three years (2020-2023) while studying theatre directing I focused mostly on devised theatre as well as hybrid forms of performance art.
I hope you enjoyed this small intro, take a look at the projects I have worked on!
Love from Kypseli, Athens,
Thanos
